If it's in the contract that the nanny will supply the vehicle, no, it's the nanny's responsibility. This is why I only drive my charges in a family vehicle, and that's exactly how it's writting in the contract. |
| I'd forget the warranty, order a head gasket, and put it on myself.... After I checked to make sure that it really WAS the head gasket. Never would I pay 5k to have someone do something that I could do for myself in just a few hours. This is why everyone needs to know how to work on their own vehicles, or if you aren't quite up to that, at least find a mechanic you can trust who won't charge you thousands of dollars to do a job that should cost no more than a couple of hundred. I'm assuming that, like your bosses, you're also not driving a Maserati. |
So over the top! https://gobdp.com/blog/blown-head-gasket-repair-cost/ |
| Why would you do anything yourself in a brand new car under warranty? |
What? Lol well as lovely as all of this sounds I am not doing anything to this car when it's still under warranty and no fault of my own. It's a 2015 Audi A4 and the dealer is taking care of it and loaned me another to drive in the meantime. My car is closer to being a Maserati than theirs are, not that it matters but since you brought it up. I have an Indy shop that specializes in Audi and vw but it's in another city and the dealership I bought it from was closer. If I'd taken it to them I also may have had to pay upfront and wait to be reimbursed. The most I would probably do to my own car is change the oil and flat tires. |

To the nannies saying that it's a nanny's job to get the kids to their activities, the contract is a two way street. If it's not in the contract, but she's assumed those responsibilities as they've come up - but no one ever thought to put it in the contract - then the nanny is justified in thinking that if her personal car is unavailable, that the family should have a back up plan for transporting their kids when the nanny is on the clock. This seems like a common sense issue for anyone that has ever owned a car. I think the lesson for the OP in this situation is that, next time, you can address this in the contract. Maybe you and MB can have a heart to heart and figure this out.
Also, though I agree that it is on the nanny to get to and from work, I don't understand why everyone is being snarky. From what I've interpreted, MB offered to transport OP around. OP can get to and from work just fine. If MB didn't want to do this, she shouldn't have. It's not polite to get snarky with the OP for accepting AND APPRECIATING MB's help. Don't offer help if you don't want to give, especially if the person is telling you that they are able to find an alternative. As for the parenting issues, I understand this is a venting post. No Nanny or NF is perfect, and we all see things in each other that we can be judgmental about on a bad day. I just hope you're able to check this at the door while you work. And if her parenting is a serious issue for you, you might want to consider looking for a new family before tensions rise so much that you vent your frustrations to her in anger. And to the woman criticizing OP for not having a financial back up, stop being so bitter and go have a glass of wine. |
| After moving up in my career into high profile situations...I'll never work for a family that requires me to transport kids in my own vehicle ever again. Nanny car is the way to go. Period. End of story. |

The story was long, but after reading all I want to know what kind of new (used)car is this that needs a $5000 repair. What dealership is it that takes so long to give you a loaner. If you can't afford $300 in rental, how could you afford a new shitty car that needs $5000 in repairs.
|
^^ Apparently, it's a 2015 Audi A4.
So, why couldn't you afford a rental if you can afford this very expensive car? |
Op here. I didn't want to tap into my savings to pay for a rental car knowing that the dealer would give me a car in a couple of days and I had a way of getting to work. I have a backup fund for emergencies and I didn't consider me renting a car to drive their kids around when mb and db had a car available and she was just sitting around the house and had no appointments an EMERGENCY FOR MYSELF. Like it's mentioned elsewhere in the thread the contract never stipulated me using my vehicle but I've done so without issue as it's come up and have been reimbursed for it. I put my car in the shop on a Thursday and had a car to drive within 2/3 business days. Thursday and fridays we don't have appointments and school was out the following week. She wanted to give me rides and I wanted to uber. Though I appreciated it, riding with them was like I still at work so I was happy once she backed off and stopped insisting. I also have tons of pto and sick days I've never used and came anyway when others probably would've left them hanging. I budget my money a certain way and didn't want to change that. I'd paid my major bills and wanted to uber. |
Op here. Thank you so much. I honstely think some just gets their kicks from being rude for no reason here. |
