Easier said than done! The last MB I had would hold it against me if I didn't agree to come in on a weekend or stay late. I did do that on occasion but if I ever said no.... you could bet I wouldn't get a day off I requested a month or two in advance. She was very petty. I finally quit when she texted to asked if I could stay an extra 30min even though I had already stated an extra two hours. I said I couldn't because I had dinner plans. She never responded and showed up 45min late. She claimed she never saw my text.

You begin the job with setting boundaries. Flexibility works both ways. Also, when you want a day off, you tell her, you do not ask. You wirk and earn your vacation/sick/PTO, whatever it is called. If you are sick, do not be guilted into coming in. These MB scream about wanting "professional" nannies and they need to start acting professional themselves. Stop allowing these women to be your warden. Assert yourselves. |

I had a NF who I mostly adored by there were little things that, by the end, would drive me up a wall. Two examples:
#1. Grandma used to come in town for a week at a time (we got along really great but I would have loved the option to opt out of hanging out with her all day). Her and MB would usually be in their pajamas drinking coffee when I got there in the morning and then would putter around for like 2 hours getting ready to go shopping or see a movie (never with her grandchildren who she only saw twice a year, mind you) only to come home during nap time, without fail, most days. MB would then go to work and I would get to hang out with grandma the rest of the day. She would literally not let me leave one minute before my end time, even if the twins were napping. #2. On two separate occasions, MB's brother who lived in CA (we are in IL) would literally just open the door in the middle of the afternoon totally unannounced (to me at least, I am assuming MB knew he was visiting). It scared the crap out of me the first time, the second was just annoying. He would also hang out excessively in the morning when he visited, usually doing sit-ups and push-ups shirtless in the living room while we played. To clarify, they lived in a very small 2 bdrm loft-style place, so it's not like we had a room we could escape to. We went out as much as possible but it didn't make the situation any less annoying. |
