As a nanny with over 20 years experience, I agree with this completely. |
Can we lay off of the hysterics? I never once said that OP was evil, cheap, or anything like that. I stated what the perception is she might be unintentionally giving off by the way she has structured this position. Stop being defensive. |
I also agree with nanny deb. I recently started a job that's 50 hrs a week temporarily, then will drop down to 40 hrs in 4 days which is what appealed to me. I like the compressed work week so I can have a long weekend. Your schedule wouldn't appeal to me at this stage in my life though it might have when u was in school, but only if the short days were flexible to work around a class schedule.
I'm sure you'll find *someone* but you'd open up more options with a long weekend. |
Pp here, it also sounds like your mom isn't really too keen on babysitting. I'd keep that in mind in case she decides she doesn't want to do it at all. |
You're hilarious. Probably unintentionally so but I appreciate the amusement. |
I wish OP would come back and give clearer details on the schedule.
Are the hours set in stone? Meaning the nanny always works 7 to 5 three days a week and 7 to noon 2 days a week? Would you mind posting your job description? It may be the wording you are using that's not attractive to nannies. Are you posting to far in advance? I've seen listings where a nanny is not needed until nearly a year from now. I have worked a 10-10-10-5-5 schedule twice in my career, and know other nannies that have as well. In my situation my schedule was set. There is a nanny out their for every situation so don't be bullied into thinking you need to have a 50 hour per week nanny. |
D you have something meaningful to add, or is this just where you come to be a bitch? |
14:29, OP needs 50 hours a week but she is cheap and doesn't want to pay OT, so her mother will only watch kids a max of 5 hrs\day. OP wants to have nanny work 3 days for 10 hours and only 5 hours per day the other 2 days. Stupid, in my opinion. |
Why? |
Unless you are in college and can work around class time . why would anyone want a full time job working such inconvenient hours? |
There's someone in the market for everyone. Her needs are what they are. They may be inconvenient for you, but they aren't stupid. Everyone is different. |
What about these hours is inconvenient? |
How long have you been looking for someone OP?
I do not see your job listing as that undesirable at all. Perhaps you should just be a little more patient and keep looking a little while longer. I am sure you will find a good nanny soon. What avenues are you using? An agency or a childcare website? |
It is not an ideal schedule but it isn't horrible either. I was in a similar situation but with a more desirable schedule - working full ten hour days except Wednesday - and I did come to resent the grandparents stepping in on the fifth day. They never did any of the other work that I did - never touched the child's laundry or ironing, never made food for the child just reheated the food I made, never cleaned up the baby's bathroom or bedroom, never disinfected or put toys away in their proper place (like reassembling toys so each toy was put away with all the parts). The child's room and bathroom were a mess when I got in on Thursdays. They also gave the baby (then) foods that MB and I agreed not to give the child - so the child would point to the cabinet where the cookies and cheerios were and not want what I gave him.
I eventually gave my notice. |
Im a nanny (very experienced) and im telling you OP there is nothing wrong with your schedule. if you could do late start on Monday i would definitly be happy with it. 40 hours a week is not a part time, so whats the problem? |
