Compensation depends on much more than the "going rate". A nanny who has two years of experience will make much less than a nanny who has 15 years of experience. I think a nanny who has two years of professional nanny experience and no degree is "crazy" for asking for 25/hr. A nanny with 15 years of professional experience, comes highly recommend and has a masters degree in education asking for 25/hr is not "crazy". Those of you who work in another field, perhaps as a lawyer. If you have 15 years of experience would you expect to make more than a lawyer who is fresh from law school? I would think so. Being a nanny is in fact a real job and an important one. Stop bringing down the nanny field, as you do rely on us to give great care to your children.

Well said, 5:04. I will add that I know nannies who earn $25. per hour who don't have a degree. They have the skills their employers want.
