I think PPs have answered the Federal holidays question. For the ID question, I asked when I hired my nanny because you're required to ask for certain identification to prove the individual is able to work for tax purposes. I forget what the IRS form name is though. So it was just part of the paperwork we completed.

Only pay for the major holidays. So no Columbus Day or Veterans day or Presidents day.
