Is it ok to ask to be paid a few days early? RSS feed

So I usually get paid on Thursdays in cash. I am going on vacation on Wednesday and won't be back until the next Friday. Is it okay to ask to be paid on my last day until vacation (Monday) for the hours worked on Friday, Saturday, and Monday?

How long have you worked for these people?

I get paid the day before I leave on vacation for the week I'm away.

I've worked for them for two years.

I suppose it's okay to ask but I would, as a MB, internally frown at the idea you can't manage your money enough to wait a week.

Of course it is fine to ask, everyone that I have worked for always give me my vacation pay for my vacation. Even if they are going on vacation they will still give me my checks. Managing her money had nothing to do with it!

When was the last time you tried to "manage your money" making $5-600 a week, living in a major metropolitan city? Nannies, contrary to the belief held on these boards, are not exactly rolling in cash. She may not be broke if she doesn't get paid until a week after an expected paid date, but it might make things uncomfortably tight. Get off of your high horse.

I frown externally at a mother too damn lazy to take care of her own children.

I grasp that OP is going on vacation. When I go on vacation from my job, my direct deposit date does not change. I budget around that. You budget for what you have, not for what you're going to get in the future.

OP does not have direct depsit. You believe her employer should withhold the monies she's earned until she has returned from vacation?

OP - if a week is short for any reason (nanny's vacation or ours or federal holiday), we always pay the last work day of the week. I don't think this request should be a big deal.

I would ask as well, OP. Doesn't seem like a big deal.
