I currently wok part time for 1 family and I am going to start soon with another.

I have my own carseat that I use for one of the children that stays in my car.

The new has one child that is of a similar size. Would it be alright if I had this child ride in the same carseat instead of having the parents by another seat for my car and switching them in and out every day?

Of course. As long as both are within the weight limit for the carseat it's fine.

How would an anonymous online board know if a particular car seat was safe?!

See if the kids are the same size and the seat fits them, talk to the parents, problem solved.

If the carseat fits both kids then why wouldn't it be safe? Make sure the straps are adjusted properly foreach kid even if it means you have to unloop them, pull them out the back then thread them through the correct rung. It's still safer than taking a carseat out and putting a different one in every other day. Too easy to mess that up. 80% are incorrectly installed.

As others have said as long as the seat is a proper fit for both children it's safe.

You just don't want to use a seat you don't know the history of or that's expired.

This. The install and fit are important. Fine to share a seat but if one seat of parents own it ask first. Remember the cover can be washed but not straps.

This is why I have my own seat and got one that has a no rethread harness which means all I do is pull a lever and it adjusts the height of the straps without having to uninstall the seat.

What seat do you have? Sounds awesome.

I have a graco size4me. There are a few seats that have this feature. The graco my size, size 4 me, fit 4 me, headwise, contender basically the same seat just different stores different names. The graco 4 ever which rf, ff and boosters. The chicco next fit. Britax seats have it. They have new seats coming out and the click tight versions will last longer than the current britax. All the seats I mentioned will get kids rf until 40lbs and will ff until age 5/6 at which time you would need a booster seat. The exception is the 4ever which turns into a booster.
If you google the graco my size and look at images you'll see a red handle on the top of the seat, that's how you adjust the harness. Any seat that says no rethread has this feature.
