How to ask for a raise?

I've been with this family for many years and I only got the first year raise and no more. And no birthday gifts either; read some of the employers here thinking of gifts to their part time or summer nannies and I'm thinking I never got one. WWYD?

Look for a new job and put in your contract that you get yearly COL raises at a minimum.

I wouldn't stress about not getting a birthday gift...It really is not a big deal.

If you get a gift, fine. If not, fine as well.

In most jobs, birthday gifts are not the norm.

Many jobs acknowledge birthdays somehow. Many jobs also have holiday or otherwise office parties. Nannies don't get those, so yes, it is the responsibility of the employer to remember such things or risk isolating and burning out their nanny.

OP here. Yes, I know it's not the norm receiving gifts from employer just noticed some postings looking for advice whether it's a birthday, parting or summer gifts.

Don't trip on holidays, I don't celebrate none of them holidays are pagon holidays set up to make money and to celebrate things that are not necessarily true, or in the bible. But ! ask to have a meeting let them know you have a concern that you would like to talk about. Thats why I always say I am a good communicator because I will discuss my concerns with people. This is something that should be made known when you first talk at hire, will I recieve a raise yearly, because the cost of living goes up every year,bills go up ,rent go up, food goes up/ electric, gas, bus fair, subway fair,clothes are not cheep, children clothes , shoes go up. So ask to talk and find out when will I be recieving my next raise, or will I get another raise? Don't be affraid !

No. Most jobs do not acknowledge birthdays. Families and friends acknowledge birthdays. If a nanny is burned out because she doesn't get a birthday gift, she needs another line of work.
