I have a question about mileage reimbursement. I work part time for a family about 8-10 times per month, and sometimes I take the kid out with my car. I am paid 15 per hour. My question is should i ask for mileage reimbursement? I feel it is ok not to ask if I am driving the kids just to a place 5 minutes away, but now I am thinking to ask for reimbursement for a places 15-20 minutes away (30-40 minutes back and forth). Is reasonable to ask to be paid $0.56 cents per mile? Thanks
Sure. Ask for the IRS reimbursement for travel on the job.
Yes ask
By all means go ahead and ask, unless your rate of $15/Hr is quite high for your area/experience.
Sure, you should ask for any trips you take on the job with the kids. The reimbursement is not meant to cover your commute, but is meant to compensate you for on the job travel, including those 5-10 min trips.
We do the reimbursement rate for DS' nanny as well as give her gift cards to get her car washed and detailed from a place she likes. Wondering how families and nannies handle traffic though. We are considering signing DS up for a class for the month of August and it would be 2 days a week. Unfortunately, the class gets out in a high traffic time and what may take her 15 min is going to take between 25 and 30. What is the best way to fairly handle this? Just tack on some extra money and say it's for the gas used sitting in traffic?
Op here. I am in the DC area (Alexandria) and I have 5 years of experience and work for multiple families. Ok, so I will start asking. I have been working for this specific family for about 2 years, and driving the kid for about 1 year, and they never reimbursed me or talked about it. It didn't occur to me they had to until another family started asking me to drive their kids and asked me for how I wanted my mileage reimbursement. I will ask now, especially now durin summer that the parents are always asking to pick up from camp 5 minutes away from home. And go to the pool 20 minutes away. Thank you.
We pay close to the IRS reimbursement rate. I believe it's about 56 cents a mile now. We pay about 50 cents a mile and then I always round up, so it probably comes close to the IRS rate. Nanny regularly drives my oldest to music or gymnastic lessons. This fall she'll be driving our oldest to preschool twice a week. It's less than 3 miles away one way. So probably we will pay her at least $5 a day X2 = $10 each week for dropoff/pickups for oldest's school.
