Do nannies typically take their vacation when the family does or does she pick her own time? I'm in a bit of a struggle with my current NF. I picked my vacation in June and theirs is in August. They promised that my vacation was a paid vacation but I losing over a weeks pay whole they are gone. She said I don't get two paid vacations. I'm not entirely sure who is in the right?

Nannies usually get one week paid of your
Choice and anytime the family takes is
usually paid as well.

Well what does your contract say about vacations?
Our nanny earns one vacation day per month, and can use 7 days at their discretion and 5 at ours.

Depends on what your work agreement says.
Do you have guaranteed hours?
What does it say about vacation time?

Nop! The nanny can choose her 2 weeks!

I always choose my vacation weeks. This year my boss is planning her vacation around mine. I travel internationally and plan 3-6months in advance. Is never work for a family who expected me to plan my free time around theirs!

With my 1st family we did 1 week paid of my choosing 1 week paid of theirs (always coincided with their family vacation). If they took additional vacations throughout the year I was still payed because I have guaranteed hours and my paycheck should not be effected by their decision to go on additional vacations.

With my current family MB is a teacher and we have a very different set up but one that I am happy with. I have 3 paid personal days to take as needed, when needed. Instead of paid vacation where I choose the week I am paid for all school holidays (Thanksgiving break, Winter break, Spring break) So I end up with about 20 vacation days throughout the 10 month work year. If they take an additional vacation it would be paid per my work agreement.

Depends entirely on your contract OP. Others mentioning the 1 week Nanny's pick and 1 week family's pick are talking about the general rule of thumb but if your deal/contract says something different then that is what determines it.

You have to pay 2-3 weeks vacation ,if you not happy put them in day care.

I have no contract (slap me). I've always made my vacation in June every year because that's what they usually did. They switched up their vacation without telling me and assumed that I would make mine in August.

The standard is one week of nanny's choosing and one week of the NF's choosing. It would be very unfair to the family to have to plan *all* their vacation around the nanny's wishes.

Everybody wins when there is equal opportunity to choose time off.

They did not bring this up at all in June when you asked for the time off then?
