Nanny with bad manners... RSS feed

We hired a new nanny about four months ago and started to notices changes on our two sons in a matter of weeks in their manners. They are four and six. Honestly at first I thought my six year old was bring home things he picked up at summer camp. They have both started farting and burping loudly without saying excuse me. It's embarrassing in public. Anyway last night my six year old says "I have to take a fat dump." I was horrified. I asked him here he leaned to say something so disgusting. He said "Nanny." I was upset with him and told him it's not nice to make stuff up. A battle ensued. After he went to sleep I decided to review the nanny cam. (yes she knows we have one.) I periodically check it but never really watch the whole day. Was I in for a shock. There was our nanny belching loudly and randomly ripping big ones. No excuse me, nothing but the three of them cracking up. It's disgusting.

I'm going to talk with her when she comes in tomorrow but I'm not sure how to approach it. It's an odd situation. Her references were great and I've never doubted her. I'm thinking of letting her go all together. I don't think I can feel the same way I did about her before. It grosses me out. I can only imagine what else she's doing when I can't see it.
Am I out of line to want to fire her?

Ok - taking this at face value, I wouldn't fire her. I would have a very direct conversation about the manners you are striving to teach your kids and what is and is not allowed in your house.

I'd be clear "We do not want them farting or belching loudly - we want them to learn how to control, minimize, and handle these bodily functions politely so they can do so in public. We expect the same behavior in the home we expect in a restaurant. I need you to support this fully and not engage them in this way any more. This is non-negotiable for us. Can you do that?"

If she can't, then you can fire her.

BTW, I would have a very similar reaction as you are - though my husband would think it's hilarious.

Good luck.

Fire her and invest in a really good bathroom fan to to get rid of the fat dump smell.

Have fun, OP!

Man this is funny. If she knows you have a cam, and knows you're recording sounds and video, then have a direct conversation with her about it. Tel her what the kids said and how you reviewed the camera because you didn't believe them. Tell her while you get they're just having fun, it's not the president you want to set and it needs to change.

She's more of sitter, not a nanny. FYI.

Too disgusting to be believed. You are trolling or the dumbest MB on the planet to hire a babysitter like that. That pig is not a nanny.

I have two sons and I never said anything like" take a dump," and other gross term related to bodily functions but they have used these terms. Locker room talk. This is what boys do.
