How nuch should I charge to start watching two or three kids in my place? RSS feed

I an experinced nanny and right now I'm only working part time. I could really use the extra money and no matter how many jobs I'm applying to I'm not getting anywhere . I'm thinking of watching a few kids in my apartment and chafing slightly lower than daycare and not per child. I'm thinking 250-300 per week per family but for mo more than two or three kids. Is this a good amount?

So, for three kids, full time, from one family, you'd make $300/wk? Besides probably being illegal since it's an unlicensed daycare, how could that possibly be enough money?

That's $1200 a month

You need to be a licensed daycare for that. What you are describing is illegal.

That's much less than you make working at McDonalds, and those people can't even support themselves.

Have you considered marketing yourself as a nanny share willing to take 3-4 kids. Then you can set a base rate, say $12 per family for two and continue to lower it for additional kids, say $9 for four. Be sure that how ever many you do does not violate the daycare licensing regulations in your area.

No, she said she was charging "per family," not per kid. If she has one family with three kids ...

Getting licensed isn't that difficult.

I'm pretty sure she means 300 a week per family but with 3 kids thats 3 different families... i think thats what she's trying to say

But her original post said NOT per kid, per family.

In any case, she hasn't returned, so perhaps she has changed her mind.

This is the OP-

I would charge hopefully $300 a week, per family snd not per child

OP your post doesn't even make sense. 250-300 per family per week. You only want to watch 2 or 3 kids total. Will you be watching kids from only one family then? Two families?

Let's look at things:
You're watching Kid A from family A and kid B from family B.
You charge each family $300 for a 40 hour work week.

You're only earning $7.50 per hour per kid.

....you can't even find a regular job to pay for $15/hour (which is what your total pay would be in the above scenario?)

Op it needs to be more like $200/child/week.

So 3 kids would be $600/week. $2400/mo

That is a more livable wage.

I get that you want to keep prices low, but you have to factor in all of your expenses.
