We are travelling With our nanny and we have all her ex penses taken care of, the one thing we don't Know how to deal With is her transportation during her Time off. We are already renting one car for us for the while week, but we were wondering if we should rent another one for her to use? We are not sure how public transportation Will be there. Thanks |
where are you going? |
OP here, we are going to Miami beach, and there are sites That are far like the everglades and key west That hubby and I Will do (everglades only with the kids) so not sure if she would want to go visit by herself. |
I would talk to her about what she'd like to do during her time off and go from there. If public transportation isn't an option, then I think this is your expense. That or pay her as though she is working the entire time, since she wouldn't be able to make use of her time off. |
I have had families specifically rent a car for me for my off time and to use while taking the children to different sites. I've also had a family that didn't give me a car of my own, but I had use of the rental during my time off.
I think it is a nice gesture to rent a car for her to use. |
One option, in an area like that, would be to pay for her to do some fun excursions if she's interested. Everglades tours and things like that are really easy to do through any of the tour agencies. Miami Beach itself is great fun to bum around without needing a car.
So I think you could figure it out while you're down there, or decide that you'll have a budget for some "fun money" for her to spend as she sees fit. Maybe $200 or something like that so she could rent a car for a day or two, or go on a tour, or eat at some fancy restaurant, or go deep sea fishing, etc... |
I would determine the cost of the rental and give her the amount in cash. My reason is that she will have flexibility to choose a mix of activities and some days with the rental or prioritize having the rental every day,but you won't know which. I personally love to explore a city on foot sometimes and if I were working during the day there may be a day when I just need to stay in and rest. Flexibility would be my priority. |
I think your should rent a car for her. Rental cars in Florida are really cheap. |
Is this trip soon? I can't imagine wanting to go to the Everglades in the summer (and I've been to the Everglades. I LOVE the Everglades--just not this time of year!) |
Nanny who used to live in Miami beach- I didn't have a drivers license and took the bus everywhere!! On her days off she's not going to care about the Everglades, she's be in south beach or on Lincoln road unless she's over 65. No car!! |
Rent a car for her, cheapskate. |
Yes, if the nanny is the beach/party girl type, then you won't need a car for her. But, if you have a nanny who lives to explore, then get her a car. But she will want to go inland in the mornings and evenings. Miami during the summertime is a miserable place to be, unless you are near the beach. |
OP here, We are staying just at the hotel by the beach, the fontainebleau. I talked to her and she says she is fine with whatever, so what we decided to do is to give her an allowance which will allow her to rent a car (by the hour our by the day) and/or take public transportation. Thanks to you all for your input. |
I never rent a car for my nanny. |
\\ an allowance? what is she a child!! |
