Is it weird to ask...? RSS feed

I babysit a family regularly a few nights a week. I have been working with them for a few months. I don't have their wifi password and usually just watch tv when their child goes to sleep. Would it be weird for me to ask them for their password? Would you see it as unprofessional? I'm obviously not surfing the web instead of watching the kid. Like I said, I wait until she asleep and I have nothing else to do.

I find it to be bad manners to ask for someone's wifi password.

Not weird or unprofessional, most families I know offer it to me or post it on their fridge. Just tell them you're not a huge tv fan and would they mind if you use their wifi to play on your tablet after Sophie goes to bed. Seriously, no normal modern human would think twice about you asking. They really should have given it to you the first time you babysat but sometimes people forget

MB here. Definitely ask. Let them know that you are only interested in access after the baby is asleep.

Totally normal and not unprofessional at all.

Should a nanny ask for the password?

I would say " would you mind if I connect to your wifi one larla is asleep"?
Dont know why but it sounds nicer than asking for password.

I usually ask if they have wifi I can use after the kids are in bed. It's not usually a big deal to me either way because I have a smart phone and can bring a book, but if I'm apartment hunting or something, I might want to use a bigger device. Just ask.

Is it really that hard to bring a book?

I guess not. That's what I usually do, but I'd like to be able to do homework and other such things.

I've never had to ask for it. I'm usually given the password on the first day. Most cell phone plans nowadays don't offer unlimited data (I have unlimited) so if the family expects to stay in contact they need to offer it v

Is it really that hard to share the basics?

MB here. I hope I would think to offer it, but would have absolutely no problem sharing it.

Obviously, it's good to point out that you'd only need/use it after the kids are asleep, but absolutely go ahead and ask (IMO).
