What is the going rate for nannies who pick kids up at school at the end of the day & watch til around 6 pm? Trying to figure out cost difference b/w afterschool care program vs. PT nanny, which we'd prefer (our kids are still small).
Live in NW DC. (and pay on the books/including taxes) Thanks. |
| Do you want a college student or someone with nannying experience? |
| just pay by the hr. Depends on how many children you have. $18/hr and up. 1 hour is 1 hour no matter if the nanny is full or part time. |
I charge $35/hr. |
| If you're looking for a career nanny then you'll typically pay more for a PT position simply because of the lack of hours has to make the pay worth it. I highly recommend looking for a college student who is looking to make some extra money or even a reliable senior in high school. |
| Post for a sitter (not a nanny) and you will get college kids which will probably be fine for you. No tutoring or helping with homework, no making dinner - just pick up and watch? $13 to 15 an hour. |
| You will have to pay $70/hr if you want to find anyone decent, otherwise you are the worst parent in the world. JK, a college student will do it for $15/hr. |
My personal experience: When I was in college I had after-school sitting/nannying jobs from $10-15 an hour. As a nanny with extensive child-related experience (e.g. teaching, working with social services) and 8 years out of college now, I make $20-$22/hr at my PT jobs. I charge $16-$20/hr for date nights. |

$35/Hr.
You must be dreaming. That is absurd. |
It's not so absurd on payday. |

Lately, the nannies here are working really hard to drive up rates. $35/hr is crazy and total fiction.
OP, you need a sitter, not a career nanny. If you only need them to pick up and supervise, you don't need to pay more than $15/hr. If you have more than one kid, bump it up to $17/hr and you are likely to find many fine candidates. Look for them on college job boards and neighborhood list serves. Maybe care.com. Don't bother with DCUM. The nannies here who post don't represent themselves well. |
Nice. Apparently the parents like whatever special qualities she brings to the table. |
| Everyone I know who does this hires a college student or grad student and pays about $15/hour. |
| I pick up 2 boys: fix their dinner, give them a bath and help with homework from 5:30-7:30 and get $18/hr |
| Everyone I know pays at least $20. for this. |
