Boy, was I wrong about that! I always thought it would be so fun to have my dog along.
I was recently asked if I could do a very last minute babysitting gig for 11 hours. I told them I could only do it if I could bring my dog since I would be gone so long. They agreed. Everyone had a great time but me. It was as though I was taking care of an extra kid. They live on the 5th floor, so I had to time the dog's bathroom breaks so he wouldn't have to go when the child was sleeping. At home he sleeps a lot during the day, but there, he would follow me from room to room to see what i was doimg. It was just so much more to think about than had I just watched the three year old boy alone. Well, I'm glad to not have that fantasy any more. If it happens again, I'll ask my elderly FIL to let him out on the porch in the afternoon. |
| Yup, my employers said I could take my dog to work everyday. They were so confused when I'd only bring once a month. It's just a pain the ass to deal with two kids and an over hyper terrier who wants my attention more than the kids. |

I've taken my dog to work with me for the past 5years with multiple families and have never had an issue. The kids have always enjoyed having him around, and the parents liked having a dog without the responsibility of actually owning one.
I imagine this would vary depending on the type of dog you have. My dog is under 20lbs and very calm. He also doesn't need to go out so often that it interfered with our day. I walked him with the kids, took him with us to the park, and took him out during nap time. Obviously an apartment building would be tougher - but still doable. If my dog were hyper and needed a ton of attention, I probably wouldn't bring him to work with me. |
| I used to bring my 2 adult German shepards without issue. This board has such a whiney bunch of nannies. |
