How do we find an Alice from the Brady Bunch? RSS feed

Anonymous
We are desperately looking for a part-time, live-out position in our home, but one that is a hybrid. In a perfect world, we need someone who works 5-6 hours per day. Before the children (9, 13, 14) come home from school, we need this person to be cleaning (light or deep) and running errands (grocery store, dry cleaner, etc.). But we also need a person to pick up youngest at school, oversee homework, drive to practices and occasionally prepare dinners.

We find listings for housekeepers who can clean, but don't have the child or driving or cooking skills. Or we find listings for nannies who have great child skills, but don't clean or run errands.

Like I said, we need an Alice from the Brady Bunch. Any advice on agencies, online sites or other resources?

Thanks!

How much are you willing to pay for this Alice?

That would depend. $15-$20/hour. Could go a little higher if need be, but we are not looking for someone with a degree in child development, etc. We don't need someone who is doing child enrichment activities, playing on the floor with them, doing flashcards, taking to park and museums, etc. Our kids are older and pretty independent - just need an adult presence with them after school, making sure they are doing homework, getting them to practices or tutoring sessions, etc.

You most definitely will not get Alice for 3 kids (older or not, this person is responsible for them), errands and deep cleaning for $15-$20/hour.

Sounds like you need a housekeeper more than a nanny. Post for a housekeeper with childcare responsibilities and specify the need for driving and perhaps a car if you aren't providing one. You will get a housekeeper and most likely not a legal citizen.

Alice never even existed in the 1970's and she lived-in working full time.

Your perfect person will cost $1,800 a week.
Can you afford that?

You will not find what you are looking for in the budget you provided. My guess is $30/hr will find you a good candidate.

Since your kids are older and don't need a nanny per se, you can probably find someone at the upper end of your range.

Depending on what you mean by deep cleaning, you might want to offer $20-22/hr.

You say you've seen other people's listings, but have you posted the job yourself? That will give you a better idea of the types of candidates you're looking at. If after you post you still don't get any responses willing to do all the work you've asked, I think your best bet will be to split this in to two separate jobs.

With the salary your offering I'm not surprise you can't find anyone!

I would charge at least $25/hr for this.

LOL $30/hour .. you delusional nannies are sick!!

Op where do u live? It's possible to get a good nanny/housekeeper for $20 so don't be persuaded by the nannies on here who try to inflate the nanny profession.
