Is it common to not ever receive a raise? I've been employed by my nanny family for three years and I have never received a raise. In fact, they're looking to lower my pay next Ausgust because they will have a child in school full-time. Is this normal?
You're their doormat.
If they want to lower your pay when the kid goes to school they will definitely not agree to a raise. That is not best practice and not universal but it is certainly the reality for this family. You should job hunt now.
New job ASAP.
You need to start updating your resume for when the kid starts school. While not getting annual raises happens (especially if the parents haven't gotten raises at their jobs) you should at minimum be getting a yearly COLA adjustment.
