Our nanny has been looking after our child for almost six months. My husband got a job transfer overseas and we'll be moving next month. What's an appropriate goodbye/thank you gift, considering that she's only been with us half a year? I've heard anywhere from $100 to a week's pay.
Thanks! |

Whatever you feel in your heart is good enough for her.
To me, anything would be nice. However, I am not a very materialistic person in general and even a $20 Starbucks gift card would be a nice token of appreciation for me. I strongly recommend that you write her a glowing letter of recommendation before you leave to assist her in finding another position. You sound like an awesome employer!

For me, as a nanny, a heartfelt letter of appreciation means more than anything else.
As a nanny a wonderful reference letter would be very much appreciated. If you're thinking additional monetary compensation then do whatever you're most comfortable with - she hasn't been with you long enough for "severance" but I'm sure a thank you bonus would be appreciated.
I would give half a weeks pay for half a years work plus a good reference letter.
Thanks, everyone! We already wrote a reference letter, and the nanny has her next job lined up. I'm so relieved, because I felt terrible that we had to let her go so soon after hiring her.
