Making yourself more appealing to potential families

I'm working on updating my resume in preparation for a job search this fall.
What are some classes or training I can take to boost my appeal to families? I already have the basic cpr/first aid type thing. I'm thinking food safety, epi-pen administration, and some sort of swim safety. Any other certifications or classes? Thanks in advance! |

Lifeguard certification has been a huge hit with all the families I've interviewed with, as is advertising your proficiency with any particular sport (assuming you're interviewing with families who have older kids or want to keep you on long-term). Even if getting certified as a lifeguard isn't possible for you, consider using the summer to achieve a strong swimming level; pool safety is a big deal

I took an infant/childhood nutrition class. Not only does it look great on my resume but I actually learned a lot!
I also include that I am proficient in the area of self-defense. Each time I interview, I bring a portfolio to give the family. It includes a current resume, background check, DMV record, all of my certifications, letters of recommendation and proof of vaccinations. I have been offered every job I've interviewed for. Be polished and professional. |

| 14:59 You said that you include a background check in your portfolio. Where do you usually get one done that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? I assume you mean that you paid for it and then you hand over the original copy of it to the parents. I don't know that I would feel great about paying for an expensive background check for each family that I interview with. That could really add up to a lot of money. |
