I need help trying to figure out the going rate for a nanny. 1 infant, about 40-42 hours a week. What would be an appropriate hourly rate? Also if we wanted light housekeeping what would the rate be? Location is Old Town Thanks in advance

Starting asking the nannies at the parks in Old Town. They'll tell you.

$15-$20 per hour depending on experience and education and overtime for all hours worked over 40. You'll also want to think about whether you'll offer vacation 2 weeks is pretty standard with 1 week being the nanny's choice and 1 week being your choice (usually coincides with the family's vacation). Sick days (3-5 days per year).

Also, "light housekeeping" can be a major flag for nannies so make sure you know what you mean when you say "light housekeeping". Children's dishes/laundry/picking up the playroom and children's bedrooms are all pretty much part of a nanny's job - if you want her doing other household tasks you'll probably be paying a higher hourly rate.

The nanny is fine with cleaning and prepping meals, the housekeeping is fine,I just need an accurate rate to offer. Thank you PP

For child alone, $15-$20/hr.

With housekeeping, $16-22/hr.

$16-18/hr with OT pay and benefits will get you several good candidates.

I live in Del Ray, interviewed a bunch of candidates. For just one child, I'd say 15 is the bottom and you'll hear a million answers after that (we have 2 kids, range we heard was 15-30, with most around 18-20/hour). Along with everything said above, another big factor is if you are paying on the books or not. We pay on the books, but had to pay a few dollars more per hour to compensate for the tax.....this was after having multiple candidates say "no" once we mentioned paying on the books.

I'm poster 12:34, forgot to add that we didn't hear a different rate when we mentioned housekeeping....but we were very specific on that.....we just basically wanted the house to be in at least as good of shape as we left it in the morning, and she did the kids (not our) laundry.

Which rate do you charge?

Good nannies with a solid work history and excellent references will likely charge $16-$18/hour to start. If you are open to candidates who do not drive or who are not fluent in English, you can probably find someone for a lower rate.

This may be true for nannies who don't pay taxes. No one would accept this rate if taxes were taken out.

Also, since you only require 40 hours, you may have to pay a higher rate if you need 5 days a week. Most of the nannies we interviewed were interested in working some overtime to get their weekly pay up. They still need to pay their rent.
