Driving record blemish. RSS feed

Currently interviewing and MB has asked for my driving record. I'm totally open to her seeing it but I have 1 claim against it. I was reversing out of a drive way on a very narrow street in the pouring rain and I bumped a parked car. I guess it was just in my blind spot. No one was hurt or anything & I ended up paying out the claim as not to affect my insurance rate but would that be something MBs would see as a non safe driver? Should I explain prior too giving them the record? It honestly was a total accident.

I don't see why that would be such a huge negative in the grand scheme of things. Five years ago, I hit a car backing out of a driveway. Paid the claim and all was well. Never had an issue with interviews.

Now, if it was a dui/dwi/vehicular accident to a person, etc that would be different.

Explain it in a matter-of-fact manner (don't be defensive) and I doubt it will make any difference. Besides, there is nothing you can do about it but present it in the most positive light - it's on your record and she will see it.

MB here. If you proactively brought it up and explained the situation and there was nothing else on your record, I would appreciate your honesty and it would not count against you in an interview.

+1 from another MB.

Ask anyone...I think everyone on this planet has had one fender bender or two.

Better for you to tell her than for you to say nothing and for her to find out on your driving report.
If it seems like you tried to cover it up, then it makes it look much worse than it is.

Most likely she will shrug it off.
If not, then she is just too Type A and you don't want to work for someone like that anyway trust me.

And another MB agreeing.

Unless you will be driving your employer's car I can't imagine the kind of infraction you're talking about would be a big deal at all.

Another MB here. Even if it was your employer's car, I wouldn't hold this against you. SO many people have been in small fender benders that something like this wouldn't really register for me. I'd only care if your record had multiple incidents, injury to another person and you were at fault, DWI, or something that showed you were negligent.

Why is it on your driving record if you didn't go through insurance ?
