How long for family to get back to you with contract? RSS feed

Anonymous
Last Tuesday I interviewed for a nanny position. This Monday I was offered and accepted the position. I am supposed to start next Thursday. How long should I expect to wait for the family to get back to me with the contract? I sent them a sample I had downloaded on Monday so they could look it over and fill out all the details. I don't want to pester them about it, but definitely want it before my first day, and ideally earlier if we need to discuss changes. I suppose I should give them the weekend, and email on Monday if I hadn't heard anything? I don't want to be a pest. What do you think?

I'd say email them Monday if you haven't heard and say you're following up and wanted to see if there are any issues they'd like to go over. If they hesitate encourage them to get everything out on the table now so it's clear for all parties and let them know you can't start without a signed contract.

When I'm offered a position, I always ask for them to review the contract template I've written and to either fill in the blanks, or use it as a guide and send me an e-mail/document so we can all be on the same page before I officially accept the position. I usually hear from them within 24 hours (though I would say 2-3 days is acceptable depending on the start date).

If I haven't heard from them by day 2 or 3, I'll give them a call and see what's up.

Are you sure they aren't looking for someone cheaper? Some are like that.
