How much to pay an 11 year old to "babysit" the kids for 90 min while I"m nearby? RSS feed

I'm going to be playing soccer, and one of my teammate's son will be watching my children (3 and 9 months) right next to the field while I play (maybe going to the playground that's about 20 yards away). I'm thinking I'd pay him for 2 hours - 90 min of the game and travel to/from the field with his mom.

I was thinking $15-20 total. Any thoughts on whether or not that's in the right ballpark?

My fifteen year old niece charges around $5 am hour when parents are totally gone. $15 is ample payment.

$15 seems totally reasonable.

Sounds fine. I pay $6-7/hr for mother's helper type coverage and this seems pretty similar.

An 11 year old watching a nine months old and a three year old? That is a recipe for disaster. You need to find someone a tad older or you will be sorry.

Is the 11 year old prepared to change a poopsplosion diaper? Deal with spit up?

Op said they'd be in the field right next to them or in the playground 20 yds away. I'm sure it will be fine for 90 minutes. OP is close enough that if something happens, she can take over.

I wouldn't let am eleven year old take a nine month old to any field any yards away, but that's just me.

OP again.

Thanks! I'll go with $15 per game then. I'm not too worried about having the 11 year old watch them. I'll be really nearby for anything (within sight the whole time), and it's a woman's rec league team. At least 80% of the people on the field (both teams) will be moms, no one's going to freak if I just have to run off the field for whatever. There will be subs on the side of the field to help out too. I can have the 9 month old sitting on a blanket or in her stroller and the 3 year old will be thrilled to run around an play catch.

Mostly all the 11 year old has to do is keep the 3 year old from running onto the field!

thanks everyone!

You are a terrible mother. Get a sitter at your place and give them the proper $$.

These stories are from the first two pages of Google and all took place within the last year. They were all kidnapped on playgrounds.

This is what would scare me about having an 11 year old watching your kids. I think a lot of PPs are being overly dramatic calling you a terrible mother but I would NEVER have an 11 yr old watching 2 children. He just wouldn't have any experience in keeping an eye on TWO children.
