Showed up today after being on Vacation for 2 weeks. Contacted mb last night to see what time she wanted me in she says 9:30. I show up and 4/5 kids were sitting at the table having breakfast. After 10 mins I ask where is DC 5? Then MB explains he is in the bath as he has a horrible rash. After talking about it more she says she is taking him to the doctor as he might have impetigo. Then she goes. Oh it's highly contagious I guess I should have told you............. After seeing him I would have stayed home. He looks horrible. I have him up until 3 today when MB had an appointment made for him.
So upset and disappointed. This isn't the first time I have been blindsided by this mb |
| I would seriously be looking for a new job. It should be your choice whether to put yourself at risk of serious illness. |
| What? I think exposure to childhood illness is an occupational risk of being a nanny. As long as your MB didn't leave you with the kid, I don't think she did anything wrong. It's not like it's typhoid or something! |
| Agree with PP. This is unacceptable. If this is truly the first time she has done something like this, I'd give her one more chance and I'd firm up the section in my contract about illness. There should be something in there addressing serious or highly contagious illnesses and specifically stating that they are the responsibility of the parents. Given that they have 5 children, I would expect that someone stay to care for the 1 sick kid, while I care for the other 4, and if more than 1 is sick, I will not be reporting to work. By sick I mean serious illness or something highly contagious. I have a family of my own and I will not put my children at risk so that parents can preserve their vacation time. |
You didn't even bother to read, did you? |
Just read that this ISN'T the first time. Sorry OP. On to the next one. |
|
Forgot to mention. These are foster children.
Mb just picked up the child an hour ago. Feeling very frustrated. |

Oh, hell no. No no no no no. |

I agree that looking after sick and contagious children is all part of being a nanny. That's why they pay us the big bucks!
Hope the child feels better soon! |
| The problem is I only care for this family 1 day a week. I have 2 other families who I don't want to pass this along too. |
Wrong. Nannies don't get paid "big bucks". Nurses, doctors, etc. get paid big bucks. Enough to warrant the occupational hazards. They also receive proper benefits including sick time and health insurance. Until those become givens for nannies, and we are actually paid "big bucks", you get coverage for common colds and stuffy noses. Anything more than that and parents need to stay home and be parents. |

DB came home first and lied to me. I asked if he had heard how the doctor went. First of all he never brought it up and was sending me out the door. I asked how it went and he says oh the doctor didn't know what it was but they sent him home with antibiotics.
I knew it was a lie. Doctors don't give anti biotics just because!! I got home and hopped in the shower to disinfect myself. Then mb text. Oh sorry he has impetigo. Please scrub your hands. Also I need to cancel our overnight plans for the weekend. Awesome!! |

| You're coming across like a troll OP. Why all the unnecessary supplemental info? |
|
Sorry if you feel that its TMI,
Just very frustrated... this has turned into a total vent for me. Been a pretty horrible few months |
