When does "nanny" become "tutor"? RSS feed

I'm an after-school nanny and my oldest charge is 9 years old. She has some learning disabilities and finds math homework very difficult. I'm paid on the lower end of the scale and considered more of a babysitter by the family, and one of my duties is to provide homework help. Lately I've been feeling taken advantage of. The amount of detailed help this kid needs with homework makes me feel like a tutor and I'm not sure how to handle things. I accepted the pay knowing homework help was part of my duties, but normally that means supervising, making sure they do it and helping with the odd question. I had no idea it would be like this. What would you do?

They know that a tutor costs 3 or 4 times as much as you do, so they got themselves a bargain. Can they afford to do better?

Ask for a raise commensurate with the job requirements.
