Vent:
Im nearly in tears. I work full time for a family, and also have a 20 month old. I work for other families on evenings and weekends, someone new some regular. Anyway, tonight I'm working for a new family. There are 4 boys. One, has down syndrome (I was unaware until I got here), another had poop smeared all over his leg, another had green snot and is coughing so bad he cant catch a break, and the 4th one has ringworm. I find it very rude that anyone would expect someone to watch their children under circumstances, let alone not even mention it. I now have to worry about getting sick or passing anything to my daughter or charge. The house smells so bad (like animal urine and feces), and I'm now seeing roaches. My biggest fear. I have only 30 minus left(unless they text saying they want to stay longer). Ive never ever wanted to go home so bad in my 12 years as a Nanny.... |
| You should have walked right out as soon as you saw them. You don't need a reference from them and you shouldn't put yourself in that situation. If they text saying they will be late, tell them you charge double for bring late and tell them how rude they are when you leave. |

If the house smells like urine and feces and you are seeing roaches you need to notify CPS. This are unsanitary living conditions.
How did you find this family? Did they not realize their kid had poop on his leg when you got there? |
| Where is the ringworm? As long as you dont touch it its not contagious. |

I feel like this may be a troll post but I'll respond anyways...
When you showed up and saw/smelled/learned of the conditions you should have politely informed that family that you will not work in the current conditions and that they will need to find alternative child care and then you LEAVE. You already have a full-time family and don't need a reference from this first time family so it shouldn't impact your professional life at all. |
| Call cps |
+1 How dare they leave the children in that state. Selfish people |
| Cps. |
| If you don't want to confront them in their house you can always say you forgot something in your car and then leave. You could text them from the car. If they do not have access to a care.com account and you don't need a reference then you should've left. Their kids were sick. |
