First Nanny! RSS feed

I have been doing tones of interviews over the last few weeks. I found a family who I really connected with and am really hoping that everything works out.
But heres the thing, they have never had a nanny before and don't really know anything about being employers. I don't know how to bring up paid stats, paid holidays, making an offer ect... I know that she wants to hire me because she is talking as if its a done deal. But we haven't spoken about terms like hourly rate (she knows my rate, i gave her a bracket). She called my references and current MB told me that she had no idea that a nanny had to choose the family as well as the family choosing the nanny.
Needing advice about how to go about this as I really like the family but feel that i need to guide them.

Agree with PP, find some sample contracts online that cover EVERYTHING, print them out and give them to the family.

You need to handle it professionally, whether or not they do. The easiest way to do that is to use a pre-existing contract that has all of the terms you would prefer (or that you've agreed to). Take one from online, or one you've had in a prior position, and mock it up for this job - then give it to the family and say "this is the type of contract I've had in the past, if you have another format already in mind that's fine, but if not maybe this will be helpful. I find it really useful to put on paper all the compensation, benefit, leave, evaluation terms, expectations, etc..."

They're the rookies, you're the professional, you should feel comfortable acting like the professional.

Good luck.
