My job is ending after 4.5 yrs this summer. When should I start looking for a new job? Where should I start?

| I would say to start looking three months before your end date, and open with "I'm looking for a job that begins at the start of August" so people understand when you're available. Three months gives you time to interview and find a family that you'll mesh well with. |

So you probably know the neighborhood there really well. Can you ask your current employers if there is a neighborhood listserv and if they would be willing to put a message up saying that their terrific nanny will be leaving them when school starts in case anyone is looking, etc...
That's how we found our nanny and it was fabulous for everyone. She still sees her old family, knows half our neighbors well, knows the neighborhood and playgrounds, etc... and we felt so comfortable knowing how strong the referral was. Good luck! |

I hadn't thought of that. I'll ask my employers
Thanks! |
| When we no longer needed a full time nanny because our kids were both in school full time I prepared an ad and put it on several community list serves and used my name and email address as a reference. We were able to find her the perfect job within 10 days. |
