Toddler class in tomorrow's cold?

My charges (12 and 13 months) are scheduled to have a music class tomorrow morning, and we walk about 15 minutes each way to get there. I think the class is a good time for the kids, and has its benefits, but I don't think it'd be a huge crisis to skip a class. My employers intend for us to go despite the temperatures. Would it be out of line for me to put my foot down about taking taking them out in that cold for something that is not completely necessary?

Just dress up for the weather- layers, hats, gloves- and you'll be fine.

Are you serious? Put some gloves on and suck it up. As long as you are putting them in weather appropriate clothing there's no reason for them to not be outside, especially for a 15 minute walk.

Also - your employers are paying for that class. I'm a nanny, but if I was a MB and my nanny asked to skip an expensive class because she didn't want to go out in the cold, I'd be very upset.

I am a MB, and if my nanny said "I'm putting my foot down, and won't take the babies to their class this morning," I would fire you. Because you are not the ultimate decision-maker. Totally unacceptable. Dress yourself properly, dress the babies properly, and take them to the class they enjoy.

This is just totally boggling my mind. It's not even like the weather is going to be exceptionally cold tomorrow.

OP, if I were you I would take a good hard look at your work as a nanny and figure out if you've been pulling your weight, because this is ridiculous.

Okay thanks. I think is beyond silly to take them out in this cold for a class they don't really need but I won't say anything. As for not having a foot, I always have a foot thank you. I can always say I won't do something, I'm not some robot. They can of course decide I'm not the nanny for them, but don't for one second think I don't have a say in whether I will or will not do something.

If it was below zero or the windchill placed is below zero I would probably all the parents to reconsider music class for that day only. Add is, yes, it's cold out but if you layer up and bundle the kids up (if they're in a stroller consist an extra blanket behind them) you should be fine.

15 min each way is not that long.

Most of those classes are maybe 30 minutes long? 15 minutes there and 15 minutes back in the bitter cold does not seem worth it, but I wouldn't say anything. They of course want their money's worth, and you saying anything will only piss them off.

Usually these classes have a make up policy, figure out what it is then tell the parents because it's so cold today, you will take them on the make up day.

You sound like a wimp. I can't believe you're willing to get fired because you think it's "too cold" to go outside. I WOULD fire you, for being lazy and not following directions.

OP here. Not sure why I'm being called names, or when I ever said I was willing to be fired over this? I said I had decided not to say anything, I simply responded to an MB whose response indicated that I had no say in the matter. I always have a say. The idea that I don't is why you see nannies on this board getting walked all over. This issue is not worth my job, but I'm not stupid enough to believe that I should just blindly take directions from my bosses.

I don't know where OP is, but the wind chill is 0 for me right now. No way I'd go out in this weather for a music class if we had to walk.

When you add in the wind, it is really cold! So glad my MB agrees with me about the cold. She'd never tell me to go out for a walk in this weather.

I'm surprised people are so negative about this. My employers allow me to cancel plans if I think the weather is not appropriate, and I drive everywhere. I just reschedule activities and plan indoor art projects or games. However, we go out daily so spending a day in isn't a huge deal.
