We booked a babysitter to stay with DC while DH and I finally go on a date night.
If I have to cancel the night out, how much notice would be appropriate to give the babysitter without the expectation of compensation? OTOH, if I have to cancel late (for a good reason, like getting sick) and give less than 48/ 24 hours cancellation notice, what percentage of her pay should I give her? I don't know what the norms are for this. TIA. |

| It's up to you. IF she's a realiable, good babysitter and you cancel within a day or two then give her atleast half. I mean, you don't HAVE to give her anything but she'll appreciate it and wont hold it against you if you do. |

If I cancel with fewer than 2 days notice, I always pay the full amount. If it's more notice than that, I generally have a conversation about it. My standard babysitter knows I will pay her if she doesn't find another job that night or if she was really counting on the money. Sometimes she'll tell me that she had other plans that night that she was skipping so she's actually we I canceled and not to pay her. Most times she finds another job and let's me know so I don't pay her.
Really just be kind and then you will keep your sitter. If you're canceling within two days, pay her anyway. More than that, talk to her. |

If you want to keep the nanny as an option for the future, offering her something with be a good investment. Otherwise, she's likely to never agree to babysit again after you've costed her an evening of work.
