| How many of you nannies on here are actually from the DMV? |
| I am. I'm not a nanny, but I do a lot of back-up care (school's closed or the nanny's sick) and night/weekend babysitting. My clients are all in Chevy Chase DC/Tenleytown/Cleveland Park and I live nearby. |
| Oh cool. I'm in Kentlands. It just seems like a lot of nannies in here aren't from here. Would be nice if we could reclaim it! |
| I have no need to reclaim the board, as it can be full of resources. It's just useless when discussing rates with nannies who live in areas with a higher or lower cost of living. |
+1 Can't stand it when the dumb California nannies start arguing about our rates versus their rates. They'll say how the "top" nannies easily earn $30 per hour, when the thread at that time is about DC nannies! |
| Are there not similar boards for nannies in other areas? |
There are tons of online nanny forums. Not sure why they all flock to a DC one. |
| Really ladies, you needed to make yourselves look more petty and immature? |
| I'm not sure that looking petty and immature is limited to nannies. |
It certainly is not, this board is evidence enough of that, but this thread is specifically making the nannies here look immature. What's even more upsetting is that rather than seeing this as a beneficial space to discuss real issues with their coworkers all over the country (which could be an enriching and unique advantage), a select few nannies have decided to resort to playgroud levels of insult and dialogue. "Lets take this back from the idiot California nannies", "They should go play somewhere else". Sad ladies, sad. -A non-DC nanny |
Actually, the OP only asked how many are from the area. And I didn't say idiot California nannies. I said dumb. that was after I explained I only have beef with them when they argue about the market rates in the DC area. They'll argue that top nannies earn $30/hour, so DC nannies must be under par. It's obnoxious. And incorrect.

I thought that Jeff made this new "section" because there were so many nannies, bosses, babysitters from all over?
I never assume that people are automatically in D.C. area just because they post on here. I also post where I live if its needed (I.e. the amount of pay) but don't if it's not (I.e. child behavior, contracts etc). I'm located in Southern California but I've also been a nanny on the east coast as well. Also I've never found another forum like this one. |
| In DC for the last 14 years as a nanny. I rarely post in here due to the insane comments on here. |
| I'm not even from the US, but this board often offers (amidst insane comments) good advice and there is a lot of traffic, unlike on other local boards. I never got the impression most nannies here are from DC, and obviously I stay away from discussions specifically pertaining to DC life. |
No, no there are not similar boards in California. PP, please provide the names of the "tons" of other online nanny forums. I would LOVE to have other resources. Thanks! |
