Who called out today?

Just taking a poll of nannies. MB here and things look clear where I live but my nanny calling out again (she lives 10 minutes away)

Would have loved to, but didn't. Was 2-3 minutes late vs my usual 5-10 min early. Took longer to clear off my car than I thought.
And no, not originally from an area with snow.

I'm at work today, but I'm pretty pissed about it. I commute about 30 minutes from the suburbs, so quite a but of snow and ice near me, got into work and my employers hadn't even bothered to clear their stairs. They will be teleworking, while I had to haul my ass here in the snow and ice. Thanks guys.

Nanny was late. Called at start time to see what was up for the day. (argh!) That said, seems news may have been misreporting OPM operating status?

to 8:50 - you do realize that teleworking means WORKING right? they are still expected to put in a full day and if they have little kids that's almost impossible without child care. Agree they should have cleaned the steps though.

I understand that its working, and I get that they need childcare. Doesn't mean it doesn't piss me off. I'm cold and wet, and my knee hurts from where I slipped and fell. I get to work, the steps are covered in ice and snow, and my bosses are in pj's sipping on coffee watching TV. They are good bosses, and usually very considerate, so I'm taken aback by the self absorption today. I didn't call to check about coming in, I just came because I knew they would need me. The least they could do was put on some pants and shovel the walk.

If you broke something that could have been a lawsuit or the very least workmans comp claim against them. Not smart on there part.

In a nanny share and both families told me last night they will be telecommuting and no need to come in. I guess some parents are completely capable of watching their own children while working from home on occasion. I still get paid and no vacation time docked either, bonus off day!

+100 I am stressed to the gills when my nanny says an inch of snow is going to kill her on her 10 minute commute. For me, it means that I have to look like the employee with the screaming baby that can't get her s** together.

I love my nanny but hear people on here bit*** about snow and the commute but happy when they get their week's bonus at the end of the year

If they can both telework, it's possible they're splitting up the day -- mom watches kids in morning while dad works, then dad watches kids in afternoon while mom works.

Sure that's all fine. I'm just making sure it's clear that good employees cannot telework while watching kids - the nanny that originally posted this was implying that if you're not able to watch your kids while teleworking, you're a bad parent. I had to either telework or take leave today. My nanny called out, so I have to take leave. No harm - she has PTO for this reason too, but if I was "teleworking" today while watching the kids, I would be disciplined if someone found out.
