My MB never writes my name in the emails she sends me. Is this weird? I feel like writing a name is a matter of respect. If you write me an email then please take time to write my name. Is writing someones name really optional?
|
| No, not weird. Yes, optional. |
| I think it's weird and rude! This is email not a text, right? |
|
No, it's not weird.
I write my assistant emails multiple times a day and don't write her name, yet I'm fairly certain she knows I respect her. |
| I really dislike how people send an email using the habits [employed] in texting. I DO think it's rude unless she writes me tons of emails a day. |
| OP here. My MB rarely sends me emails so this is why I think it's so weird. I maybe get an email once a month from her. Failure of sender to insert a proper or nice salutation, such as "dear ....", "hello", "hi", "good day", followed by name feels rude and abrupt. A salutation which uses the recipient's name makes the message more personal and politer. |
| Often the email then comes across as a command or a shout. It is off-putting. |
| Ouch. I find that really strange since she doesn't email you often. |
It's totally different if her mb doesn't write emails often. I think you're right to think lack of salutation = weird. Most people don't do this! |
| It's weird but I think she's being informal and lazy, I wouldn't take it personally unless she's doing other rude things as well. |
| I don't think it's weird at all. I had an MB who always did Dear ..... then rest of email like it was a formal letter being submitted to Emily Post for inspection. THAT was weird. They are emailing ME. They know they are emailing ME. I know they are emailing ME. What's the confusion? |
| She's lazy. |
You are the help and sbe has no respect for you. I am not joking. |
|
I don't always address emails as dear ___, hi _____. I will if it is someone I don't know well, or a formal email.
When it is a two or three sentence email back and forth, I don't bother, especially if it is someone I feel comfortable with. |
| Doesn't seem weird to me. I almost never write my MB's name when emailing her. But I also email her once a week at least. |
