| Relocating to seattle June or end of August 2014. Wondering if any nannies could tell me how the job market is out there and how difficult it will be to find an affordable apt. I heading there in March to check out neighborhoods and interview with agencies. I'm only going to have about $6-7k in savings but am completely debt free. I will pay off my car insurance and cell bill for a year prior to moving. Just me and my small dog, no friends or family in that area. |
| I haven't been a nanny out there but I have family there and visit once per year. Rent varies by area. Do you want to be downtown, near the university area, or other happening areas on your time off? Or are you willing to drive or bus everywhere? That will greatly affect your rent. |
|
I'd ideally like to be close to downtown but as long as my commute to my position isn't more than 30mins I don't mind being outside the city. I figure I could rent a room for a few months until I find my ideal location. I'm coming from an expensive city now, so paying 1k for a room seems reasonable. I'd be willing to pay $1500 for a studio or one bedroom if utilities were included. Again, in debt free so my housing bills will be my only real expense.
I worry a bit about comparable nanny positions to what I make now but can survive on a low paying job for a bit if I need too. Any infor on nanny rates out there or public forums I could join that would appreciated. |

OP I'm a nanny in Seattle. If you want to talk directly I'm happy to email you or chat on FB, can give you lots of tips.
But overall the answer is : job market out here is GREAT. |
| OP, if you haven't done so yet, call some of the agencies out there and ask your questions. Just keep in mind that some agencies and families don't like to work with people who have just moved to the area. |
| OP don't worry, I moved here last summer and had my dream job within two weeks. I'm happy to recommend THE BEST agency out here, among other tips, if you post some contact info (throwaway email address?) |
| And OP, good luck! I have visited Seattle and loved it! |
|
Op here, I would love to speak directly to any Seattle nanny who would be interested in providing me with advice.
My email is 1bostonnanny@gmail.com |
