What is appropriate for a nanny/babysitter that only works for you about 8-12 hours a week.

| I don't consider someone who works such little hours to be a nanny, and I'd give the babysitter a happy holidays card. |

Does she get any PTO? I assume she will be without pay for a few weeks during Christmas break? Most nannies/regular babysitters rely on getting extra money around the holidays as part of their annual salary. Appreciating those who take care of those most precious to you, is part of the holiday protocol.

While a holiday gift is always nice, a monetary bonus is traditional. Your nanny is a professional and deserves to be treated like one. Many employees receive end of the year bonuses and so should nannies. |
While I don't necessarily disagree with you, it really bugs me when people say that all these employees are receiving end of year bonuses and therefore so should nannies. I'm an MB that doesn't receive one. So does that mean I shouldn't give my nanny one? |
| PT nanny here. I am really hoping my employers give one week's pay. It's so hard for me going 2-3 weeks without pay and I would be so greatful to have one week's pay!! |

Generally what I've seen as the standard, regardless of FT or PT, give a week's pay.

A week is most typical, but if you truly can't swing the full week then do what you can. I'm sure she'll appreciate it either way. Great P/T nannies are hard to find and keep though. so if you can go a little above and beyond for her that's likely to have good results for you.
