| What is the expectation for a Christmas bonus if employed less than a year? Doing great work and families are happy. We are assuming one weeks pay (which comes out just under 1,000) as an acceptable xmas bonus. Is this about right? |
| Is a weeks pay for someone who has been there a year. So for less, I pay less. Fractions are fun! |
^^A little early to be hitting the sauce, don't you think?

| I wish my MB and DB knew what a christmas bonus is. Guess money really can't buy you class. |
One of the tough things about being a nanny is that there is absolutely no standard way of doing anything. It doesn't have anything to do with class. Typically bonuses are given by some families who can afford them and/or who choose to have them be part of their compensation package and are typically given either because they have the impression that they are standard or as a reward for excellent performance during the year. There could be many reasons they don't give you a bonus - they may not think your performance has been beyond the minimum acceptable, they may not know that some other families do give bonuses, they may just be cheap, they may not be able to afford it, they may think they pay you enough already, etc. If you have an issue with your compensation or the way your family treats you, bring it up with them. |
+1. Also, OP, there are several threads devoted to this issue, so do a search for more information. |
| I think many employers are simply unaware of holiday bonuses for nannies, being first-time employers and never having parents who employed nannies. They give them a nice gift and think that is generous and appropriate. I wouldn't have thought of it had I not checked out ISYN years ago. |
Class? My husband got a 30% pay reduction. We are not doing anything this year but surviving. We are grateful he still has a job. When he does not, if our nanny had your attitude, she would be the first to go. Not everyone gets bonuses. Consider your bonus a pay check. I have never gotten a bonus. |
| 14:16 nailed it. I too would have had no clue that a week's salary was a normal thing to give your nanny without this board. That is about as much as I spend on my family combined and we share so it would never have dawned on me otherwise to spend so much. |
| I've almost always gotten 2 weeks pay in cash. |
