How do snow days get compensated? do you put them in a contract> back in snowmaggedon did all the MBs on her pay their nannies for a week off if they couldn't get to the house. |
It's been a pain for me. I am an MB. Our nanny does not drive and takes metro instead. She wanted to operate on the same schedule as MoCo school system, i.e. not come in on the days when schools are closed. I personally think it was absurd. She also believed I should be responsible for looking up the weather and school closures in the morning and calling her to let her know not to come in. I got pretty tired by the end of winter. I would say whatever system you come up with should be spelled out in your contract |
Following school schedules is nuts since they close if they is even the thought of snow. We followed fed schedule for a long while until the huge storms and after the first day or two the burbs' major streets were good (which we both live on) but DC was bad so Feds kept closing still. Now we take it case by case. I obviously am not going to make her come in if all is snowed in and Feds are closed. But if Feds close for a situation impacting metro it DC roads and roads by our two houses are fine then we will be working unless she wants to use a vacation day. |
If they take a snow day, unless you have a couple snow days written into your contract, it is either a vacation or a sick day. Commuting and snow are a part of life. Unless we have a huge snowstorm, like Snowmaggedon, your nanny is responsible for getting herself to work. In case of Snowmaggedon, it should be case by case basis.
This is one of the advantages of having a live-in nanny, you never have to worry about your nanny being able to get to work because of the snow. |
It is written into our contract that we will follow the federal closings, but I live very close to the metro, as do my bosses, so unless the metro is also not running, I would probably still head into work. I realize now that it is not clarified as to how the snow days will be counted so I will bring it up. Thanks OP! |
Hello - can you let me know where I can find a live in? |
I'm a live in nanny. I didn't really work during snowmageddon because my bosses couldn't get to work. I still got paid my weekly rate. |
