| Nanny works 32 hours/week. What would a typical holiday bonus be? Any suggestions? I am new to this. I gave her a very generous birthday present this Fall and I don't want to go too crazy with the holiday bonus. |
| I can only speak for myself, but I work 35 hours a week. Last year, after having been with the family only four months, I received one week's gross pay ($700) for Christmas and $200 for my birthday. There have been no other gifts aside from some fancy chocolates after they went on vacation. I believe that one week's gross pay is more-or-less common around the winter holidays but a good relationship with your nanny is far more important - if you can't afford a whole week's pay but are otherwise respectful and friendly with her, I'm sure she wouldn't hold it against you when she receives less. |
| I give $500 (which is 1/2 of my own holiday bonus). |
| I think what's important with the bonus is to illustrate your appreciation of her. If you don't do that, but throw a weeks salary at her, it doesn't do much good. But giving what you can afford, something from the kid, and a heartfelt card or letter from you and DH is fine. |
| OP give what ever you want. Contray to popular (dcum) belief, many don't go over a weeks pay for holiday bonuses when it comes to household help. A little something atleast but you don't need to go crazy. However, if she's been great and you have the means to give her a decent bonus than by all means.. |
The household help? |
| Has she been with your family most the year? We give a week usually, but once gave a bit less to a nanny who had started in October. |
| HOUSEHOLD HELP????? |
No one on this thread has hardly indicated the expectation that OP go crazy. Your condescending household help BS was unnecessary. |
Not OP but this common term refers to not only nannies, but housekeepers, gardeners, etc. it is help for the household. No need to get bent out of shape. |
| We do one week's pay. |
It is also condescending. |
Exactly. Condescending and outdated. Nanny, housekeeper, or gardener would do just fine. "The help" has classist and dehumanizing connotations, and I know that you are smart enough to realize why it would be offensive today. |
You should hear the names the household help have for their employers. |
| Is one weeks pay common for someone who has worked less than half the year? |
