Christmas gift dilemma with new family

I worked a share with a couple of families until sept when one mom quit. I was going to have pictures taken of the kids and canceled the photographer when the one family no longer needed me. I found a new share family to join me with the child who remained with me. The new family has the kids...am infant I care for all day, a 10 year old I pick up from school in the afternoon and a preschooler who I've never cared for because he's in dcum all day on the days I'm caring for the baby. I've never been in a situation before and have always given my charge (s) a gift but this year the family has two kids I don't se much of and one I never see except in passing. It seems weird for me to give a gift to the baby and maybe the older child but not the preschooler, but I don't really have a relationship with that child either. Has anyone been in a similar situation and how did/would you handle it?

Maybe a gift for the baby and a game for the family... Apples to Apples or something like that. Something small for the older children... Chocolate alphabet letters for their first initial?

It was someone from craigslist, very reasonably priced. I was going in with another nanny who was doing it with her charges. I have some canvases of my kids on my wall at home and my family loved them. I was going to have one made for them. You don't know the back story so it's best if you reserve your ridiculous judging for something you do know the entire back story on.

Don't you expect people to respond based on the information YOU GAVE HERE?! I still judge you. I would not want this from my nanny. I would be uncomfortable with the idea that my nanny hired a stranger to take pictures of my child. I would be uncomfortable receiving a gift from my nanny. I repeat: give a nice card.

You said your charge is an infant. An infant doesn't need a gift from you.

I would give all 3 a gift. Games or puzzles are a great idea. For the baby a cuddly toy maybe. You don't want the other kids to feel left out. Also I would not hire someone to take pics unless you have the parents permission. That sounds like crossing the line.

I agree. Most parents would be upset. It is a sweet gesture but too much. I am all for giving small gifts to my charges though.

Op, ignore the other rude posters. I've gotten professional photos taken of my charges for Xmas. I've also spent a ton of money for gifts. It all depends on your relationship with the family. You can't just buy one or two of the children gifts, they won't understand because they are so young and it could hurt their feelings. Buy the older children a book, board game or small toy they might enjoy. I like give educational gifts like a science experiment set or a challenging Lego kit.

If you give parents gifts, I always do a photo gift like an ornament with the kids picture on it or a photo book. Basically anything I can order on snapfish

I think it's nice to get the kids gifts. i would just do books for all 3 - pretty cheap and easy to add on an extra $10 for the preschooler so that that child doesn't feel singled out w/ no gift.
