treating nannies so poorly RSS feed

I read this forum and simply do not understand why nannies accept being treated as thougj they are sub-human. $20.00 for taming cate of three kids? This isn't even minimum wage per child. One nanny goes above and beyond and goes in at 4:30 am to take care of kids because of death of eldey relatove and her MB blows her off when nanny asks to be paid. Another cleans house, laundry for adults, cooks for family and makes , maybe, $15.00/hr. You ate crazy to accept these working conditions. Flipping burgers at Mac's is a better future!

You don't get paid per child, you get paid by the job. $20/hr for a non-college-educated person is extremely good. And what is wrong with your keyboard?

You go for it if it's so good.

$15 an hour to do child care and housekeeping is reasonable.

No thanks, I have a job. FYI, I made less than that when I first started in my career, *with* a college degree. You're out of your mind if you think $20/hr isn't good money.

My rates start at $25/hr.

Same here. Started at $15 an hour back in 2009. Best friend has a BS in Bio and an advanced certificate in some sort of pharmacology manufacturing and even though she worked for one of the most prominent drug manufacturers, she made more as a nanny.

I make $20/hr as a nanny and bring home a larger annual salary than I did as a public school teacher. PP is right; you're crazy it you think it isn't decent money.

What was your teacher salary? Public or private?

I see it was public.
