I have 3 girls ages 8,6, and 4. I need someone two days a week from 1 pm- 8 pm.
I am a nurse and I work 1 weekend shift and 2 week days. Some weeks it would be more but its usually just the 2 days. We put an ad on care.com but everyone says no because it only works out to about 170 a week and thats at about 13 per hour. We are in Dallas, Tx so thats a bit above the going rate for an after school care type of job(I think) How can i make this job more interesting and worth the work? |
| Add hours or pay a higher per hour rate. People need ft jobs. |
| Try upping the rate to $15/hr, OP. |

Are they the same days week to week?
On the weeks it's more than two days is it a set day and is there ample amount of notice? Are weekends part of the deal? If nanny takes a part time job from you she may have another part time job for the other days. This could be why some are saying no. |

It is set Monday/Wednesdays and weeks my husband has off so he has the girls.
If you pay 15 an hour its 210 a week. I think nannies are still turned off to that because its not full time so they aren't making a bunch a week like they want to. |
| The variable schedule is your issue OP. You're essentially asking someone to be available 7 days per week, if I'm understanding you correctly, for only $170 per week. Your availability needs prevent a nanny from being able to take a supplemental PT job. You'd either need to get lucky with a candidate who doesn't need the money/has nothing else to do, or you need to solidify the schedule/pay for on call availability. |
Ok well Monday/Wednesday isn't bad, someone who has a Tuesday/Thursday it could work for BUT When your husband has the kids - what is done with the nanny? Is this once a month? A person can't just not work (& not get paid) because your husband has the kids. I think you need to look at this again. Also look for nannies looking for part time. You wont find a nanny who wants full time but will work for you and hope for another part time job to cover the other days |
| How long have you been looking? Give it time. The right person will come along. |
| I think your rate is good. I'm a nanny in Houston and 13/hr for 3 kids is not low, but like others stated, it's the hours. |

Because the hours are not consistent it may be quite challenging finding someone willing to do this, but don't give up....It IS possible to find someone.
I currently work as a nanny with a family who only give me 6-8 days per month. The days vary by week. This works out good for me as I am on disability and only need a little extra per month to get by. Perhaps an older retired woman would work. |
