No it wasn't. A neighborhood listserv is a great suggestion.

I do only night and weekend babysitting. I've advertised on my neighborhood listservs (Tenleytown, Chevy Chase, and Cleveland Park) as well as replied to a couple posts in the "nanny search" forum. I also occasionally reply to posts on SitterCity and Care.com if I find myself with nothing to do on a given night and I'm looking to make a few extra bucks. I also let current clients know that I'm always looking for new families. I'm not telling you anything groundbreaking, but I hope this is helpful.

You can also try UrbanSitter and then CL as well.
