Will parents let me bring my baby to work? RSS feed

Hi everyone,
I have been with my current family for just over 2 years and just found out I am pregnant with my first child. Because my current family has 4 children it is not possible to bring my baby to work. I will be looking to switch to a new family either before the baby is born, or after, it doesn't matter to my current family(they want me as long as I can stay)!
I have not been able to find any positions yet, do you think I'll be able to?

You might be able to, but it will probably mean taking a pay cut

It will be very difficult with a newborn, because the schedule of an infant is so inflexible compared with older kids. You will not be able to go on as many fun outings, play in the yard etc.

Your best bet would be to approach families looking for an infant share and see if they would be open to you watching your own infant plus one more. As your baby gets older, it will be easier to try to bring her to more standard nanny jobs.

Agree with above PP who suggests infant share.

You'll almost certainly have to take a pay cut, and if you can afford to take a large one an infant share shouldn't be difficult to find. These jobs are toughed to find but they aren't impossible, so make sure you're utilizing your entire network.

This. Look into a nanny share with a family expecting a child around the same time that your baby is due. You may take a pay cut but you will be able to stay home with your child and still earn an income which is a win-win. Good luck OP and congrats on your pregnancy.

Not likely, OP, but maybe. Most likely you will take a pay cut because you're looking for a nanny share with you as the other family. Do a search here. There are many threads detailing the pros and cons.

Start actively looking now. You never know who needs you, even with your new baby. Do you want live-in or live-out? Maybe a family with one or two school-aged children?
