Came home this afternoon early to find my Nanny on the couch asleep while my baby was sleeping as well. The house was tidy and there really wasn't anything for her to do but I assumed she read in this time.
She woke up straight away so I'm not worried she would sleep through baby waking but to actually curl up and sleep seems to me to be a bit odd. I'm worried that she is tired cos she seems to have a very busy life. We like her very much, so am I just being silly? |
Yes. |
There are so many days that I would love to nap! I have set my alarm for 20 minutes and rested my body body before. MB works from home, so I surely don't feel as though I'm doing anything wrong. This is not regularly, though a 20-30 minute boost is extremely healthy for your body and I'm sure will make her a better nanny for the rest of the day. |
How many hours a week does the nanny work? |
Many people say that a brief afternoon nap is great to recharge even if you don't think you need it. That could mean just laying down for 20-30 minutes. If you fall asleep, then it's usually because you do need a bit more of a rest and will feel much better once you get up. |
OP - nanny works for us 3 days per week for 8 hours per day and then had 2 other part time jobs coaching and dance teaching.
Ok thank you for feedback on this. |
You're not being silly for asking, because in other jobs it would be unprofessional. It doesn't matter how many hours she works. Personally, as long as all is taken care of and baby is napping, I wouldn't have a problem with it. |
The house was fine, the baby was asleep, and she clearly wakes up early since she shot up after hearing you.
Relax. Whether she's reading, sleeping, or watching tv, it's still personal time. |
clearly wakes up easily* |
clearly you haven't spent too many full days with your baby..otherwise you would know how one needs that nap |
It is unprofessional for your nanny to be sleeping during the day. She should not be doing it. |
I nap everyday with my charges, I was even offered the guest bed. However, I work 60hrs a week, am in school full time and do yog training at night so my bosses understand. I don't need a nap everyday but its nice that I can if I needed too.
Decide what's okay for you than put it in the nanny contract |
I don't see what the big deal is at all. My MB is always encouraging me to nap when my charge does--and there are times that I have taken her up on that. Maybe she wasn't feeling well or had a headache. If I nap it's for a reason. |
+1 I wouldn't have done it but my boss actually suggested it. She works from home so she knows if I take a nap. As long as my work is done she doesn't care. |
I try to encourage my nanny to nap when the babies are napping. As long as your nanny only sleeps when the baby does, and everything is tidy/in order, I would encourage her to do this - she'll be better able to be fully there and energetic when your kid is awake that way.
I would FAR rather have a nanny that naps/recharges when she can, than a nanny who never takes a moment to recharge and is always tired or pushing herself too hard. That's someone who will crash at some point. I really wouldn't worry about it. |
