New job, BATHROOM REGULATIONS?? RSS feed

I have had amazing luck with finding great matching families in the past. My previous family grew out of needing nanny which was so sad! I recently started with a new family with a 3 year old. We have been doing a 3 week trial period before creating a full work agreement. Things have been working out pretty well. MB is a lot more hands on than I am used to, bordering on controlling in certain situations. I emailed her my contract and she emailed me hers so we could combine the two. I received her 6 page contract and the most ridiculous thing I have ever read is in it...
"Nanny agrees to use restroom during predetermined nap times as to avoid leaving child alone."
Ummmm... Excuse me?? I can't pee?? I am pretty sure a 3 year old (almost 4 actually) can sit with his toys or a book for the 45 seconds it will take me to pee. Does this mean MB would not want the child to stay in the family room where we were playing while I run to the kitchen to grab something as well?
I'm thinking it may be time to keep looking unfortunately... Yikes...

Another nutty whack job who'll have lots of pee on the floor to clean up when she comes home.

I'm an MB, and that's weird. I actually don't even think I've ever thought of when and under what circumstances my nanny uses the bathroom throughout the day. Now, could be if bathroom is on a different floor or they don't have babyproofing they are concerned, but I'd ask about this because unless she can articulate some concrete concern (which you can then overcome by showing you have good enough judgment not to leave the child playing in the street while you run into the house to pee, can work around lack of babyproofing/stairs, etc.), I'd pass. But I would talk with her first, not just assume she's crazy.

If you ask her to explain it, the crazy will come out if she doesn't have a legitimate concern. Otherwise, there might be some specific worry that she had and that you can overcome and take that one clause out.

I'm sorry but if she feels it necessary to specify when you're allowed to go to bathroom I'm going with the assumption that she's a crazy micro manager and keep looking. I wouldn't discuss it with her first especially since you have already noticed controlling behavior.

There are plenty of jobs that won't dictate when you can pee. A six page contract sounds excessive. Mine have never exceeded 3 pages and they've been comprehensive.

What is this child's nanny supposed to do when the child stops napping? Hold it all day?

OP here!! Haha I just saw all these posts!! I sat down with her today when she asked me if I had looked over her contract. There were too many things that were a bit to micromanaging for my taste. I have a lot of confidence in my ability as a nanny and I don't think this position is the right fit. The mom seemed really bummed I amassing on the job. I don't think it's a good fit in the long run! She doesn't have legit reasoning behind any of her rules or requests... That just screams crazy red flag to me. I applied for another AMAZING sounding position today and was called for an interview within an hour! Looks like this potential position will be a much better fit with a lot more laid back MB!
