Packing for charges' trips... RSS feed

Hi all! I am in the middle of packing for a trip my charges are taking with the family. I have tomorrow and next week off!!
My charges are 6 months and 3 years and there is a LOT to pack!! I am trying to have everything as organized as possible for MB and have lists on every suitcase of what's inside. I am trying to think of any last minute things I could be forgetting or any other last minute gigs that could make the trip easier... I am making an activity backpack for the toddler to take on the plane. Any travel suggestions? anyone think of any random thing most people wouldn't think to pack that would make a trip easier for the family?

The family I work for is also going away for the holiday week! They are leaving Saturday and I am taking care of all of the baby's packing. My charge is only 5 months old so it is mainly infant stuff!
MB EBFs so I found a great travel BFing pillow for her online. I also found a great inflatable infant bath tub that MB really liked.
My rule of thumb when traveling with or packing for infants traveling has always been pack double what you think you will need in your carry on for time in the air. Don't forget all the little things, sunscreen, hats, baby wash, etc...

That's an awesome list and it totally made me just go room by room and check things off! I had forgotten nail clippers and file which will definitely be helpful with an infant whose nails grow daily! Thanks!!

Sun screen
Pack a small carry in diaper bag in addition to the activity back pack.
For activity ideas.... Books! Paper back! Colouring! A few large blocks! Finger puppets

I'm glad my list helped!
If they're flying, make sure they have enough diapers/formula/a change of clothes/etc. in case of a layover or a diaper blow out.

I always pack room by room, but I plan by thinking through our day (wake up and make bed=bedding, lovey, air mattress, pillow; take jammies and pull-up off=X number of pjs and X pull-ups; etc.).

One thin to remember is basic meds (advil, tylenol, mucinex, nasal spray, thermometer, first kit) and pack extra prunes, prune juice or pear juice, or dried apricots, as traveling can cause dehydration (especially air travel) and constipation.

I know this post isnt helpful but....

Isn't it kinda sad that the parents cant pack their children's things?

You could say that about almost anything a nanny does. The way I see it, my bosses have about an hour or two tops each night to spend with their baby. If something as simple as me taking care of packing her clothes for a trip can help relieve stress and make that time in the evening more special for them, I will do it. I have wonderful bosses who enjoy their time with their kid, and would gladly pack her clothes if I didn't do it.

I'm the PP who posted the detailed list earlier, and I don't see it that way. Packing is something I really enjoy. If I can make a list and/or pack and it makes life easier for MB/DB, I'm happy to help. That's my personality though -- I love to make lists and check off things as I complete them.

Awesome tips that would surely helpful in the future. Luckily, I don't have to do the packing, the mother does it each time they travel.

Actually, just last week my DB came home and packed for his 2yo before I left for the day. I mentioned to him that I would be happy to take care of it in the future, if he'd like. Why should he have to do that when he could be spending time with the little one, and it would be so easy for me to get done during the day-- and it's clearly within the realm of tasks a nanny may be responsible to do.
