| We have a potential nanny coming from Brazil to study part time and work part time. She is looking for a housing situation in the Arlington/Alexandria area for about $600/mo (including utilities). Craigslist is coming up short on listings. Any other ideas for places to search? Any nanny/former au pair message boards where people post stuff like this? |
| $600/month including utilities will be hard to come by. I paid $650 +utilities for a tiny bedroom in a crowded dirty college house near college park when I was in school and it was a steal comparatively. She should check the off campus housing office wherever she will be studying for houses that rent to students. |
| Nanny/ graduate student here. I pay $500/month to share an apartment with a couple. I have my own bedroom and we share 1 bathroom. Works well for me. They are super nice and I am rarely home anyway. The apartment community is pretty much all hispanic. I live in Springfield close to Kingstowne side of Alexandria. Maybe she could try to find hispanic roommates? I found my roommates from Craigslist. |
Is this even legal? I thought international students can't work until they work at the university .. |

Craigslist- Keep in mind it's better to respond as quick as possible and to check very often during the day....I honestly recommend posting a ad with a phone number on there and having them call you.
Or post a ad looking for people to find a affordable apartment with your nanny and sign the lease with her (this is the safer way). This way everyone one can find what they want and move in. |
| Unless she lives in an apartment setup where someone sleeps in the living room, you will not find an apartment at that rate. |
| That's not true if she looks for someone who's willing to pay $600 or even a little more she can find one..Fancy, No but Affordable and private. I know this because I've done this before. |
| Thanks everyone! |
