How much should i charge? RSS feed

My friend asked me to babysit her 3 kids this weekend. Her kids are ages 4,3,and 1. She wants to bring her kids early Friday morning and come pick the up Tuesday evening. How much should I charge?

How good of a friend is she?

I'd keep my friend's two kids for the weekend for free, because I love her and I love them, and because I would have a hard time figuring out a fair price to charge her. I think you're going to have to go with what feels right to you in this situation.

No way for us to know based on what you shared.

Sorry, i forgot to add: She is actually not a friend, but one of my clients. I babysit her kids during the week for $20 a day. She has been coming to me for 5 years now.

OP, I don't think we can help you. She's not a friend now, but a client? A client of what? $20 for a day of child care? Are they the only kids you have? The details you're sharing are so far from normal our advice will be meaningless. Charge her however much you feel like your time and energy is worth to YOU. For a non-friend looking for four straight days/nights of sole charge childcare, we're be talking well over $1200 for myself, but I have a feeling that's not the ballpark you're after.

yes $20 a day...yes they are the only kids i babysit. why is this so far from normal?

No one in their right mind babysits three kids for $20/day unless the day is one hour long, even daycare provides in their own home.

I charge $20/hour for 3 kids.

If you normally charge $20 a day (where are you? Middle of nowhere?), I guess $100-150?

$20 * 5 days = $100. Closer to $150 if you want to add in some extra for overnights.

i charge $20 per kid...because i am not licensed. i don't charge $20 for 3 kids

This thread makes no sense.

OP, where are you from that you only make $20 a day watching your client/friends 3 children. That sounds insane. I make $20 an hour watching 1 child.

No one here can tell you how much to charge. The norm is to get paid hourly while the children are awake and a flat rate for the overnight hours.

Is the parent providing the children with food while you have them or are you supposed to pay for that with your $20 a day?

IMO, you shouldn't do this for less than $500. And that's a STEAL.

what's the big deal charging $20 per child per day...that's what i charge her...period. all i wanted to know was what price i should charge for overnight and weekend
Anonymous
Charge $20/day x number of days + $10/night x number of nights.

It's weird to me, but we've all seen crazier things on DCUM!!!

Is this OP again? You didn't say that before. You said:
"I babysit her kids during the week for $20 a day. She has been coming to me for 5 years now. "

See the difference?

5 years? when her oldest is 4? That's impressive OP! You managed to have someone pay you to watch their unborn children?
