Hello,

Some help with nanny rates please. Our current situation is we have a nanny part time and we pay her $13 per hour. This is her first nanny job and she's been with us for a year. I am going back to work full time and also we are trying to arrange a nanny share with a neighbor. As I said, this is her first nanny job and my first time employing a nanny so I would like some legit information.
Here are the vitals:
We are in Northern VA
We would need her from 8 - 5 Monday through Friday
My child is 14 months and our neighbor's child is 3 months old
She will not be cleaning or doing anything else, child care only

Please let me know what the 'going' rate is for this type of situation.

Thanks.

9-10 a family

For a normal share I would suggest $18-$20/hour, but given your nanny's inexperience I think $16/hour is appropriate. She would be due for a raise and taking on a share is a lot of work! On another note, do you think she is prepared to handle a young toddler and a newborn?

I was going to say $10-11 per family...

There is no "going rate" for nannies. Obviously the better trained and experienced nannies earn more. If you want to keep the nanny you have, you've got to ask her what it would cost to double her work. I am sure she has a good idea.

I posted 9-10, you don't think 10-11 is a lot for a nanny with only 1 year of experience? Just curious.

You could be right actually, plus by starting at 9 each, there is plenty of room for raises as experience grows...

Some nannies in the DC area earn 25. for one child. All depends on how high or low your standards are.

OP, why entrust her with two babies when she has so little experience?

No OP but presumably because she has shown herself to be capable over the past year of employment.

18 is too high I think for a nanny in nova with very little experience. I would offer 16 if you are nearer in.
